What is the relationship with Get Up and similar activist or community based advocacy organisations?

Answer

Get Up and other organisations invest a significant amount of time and resources on lobbying (or begging if you like) the major parties to vote one way or the other on particular laws. This money could be better spent in supporting Democratic Reform Alliance with its narrowly defined but profound agenda of creating greater transparency and better accountability in Australian politics.

The Democratic Reform Alliance would give organisations like Get Up (as one example) access to an alternative voice in the Parliament. The same voice would be provided to other organisations placed on the centre or right of the political spectrum, or who are not defined to have a place on the spectrum, but who are similarly concerned about the influence of money on politics and lack of representation afforded by the current parties.

To be effective the Democratic Reform Alliance must be fully independent of these organisations and their specific agendas and campaigns.
